Your Needs Can Be Met Through The Use of Evidenced Based Practices

methods

I’m a psychotherapist, but I am a human first. The relationship we create is key in making progress during therapy. Research findings show that it matters more than any extra letters after my name, what school I attended or theory is utilized. I want you to start your first session with me knowing that you matter. I will not be a blank slate, but instead bring my whole self into the room (extensive training + personal experience). There will be no judgement. There will only be acceptance for who you are and guidance to get you where you want to be. And there will inevitably be laughter, cursing and tears along the way.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)

There is more and more research demonstrating that self-compassion is related to greater emotional wellbeing, lower anxiety and depression, maintenance of healthy habits, and more satisfying relationships. MSC includes three core components which include self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and mindful awareness. During therapy we combine these key principles in order to reduce self criticism, build self appreciation and love, as well as create a sense of ease in navigating through life’s challenges.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT tapping)

EFT tapping (emotional freedom technique) is a somatic technique that uses acupuncture points combined with verbal statements to reduce the pain and intensity of mental health symptoms. The goal is to provide relief from distressing thoughts, memories, beliefs and even physical pain. It is researched to be effective in addressing stress, anxiety, chronic pain, trauma, and phobias.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Numerous research studies have shown Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to be an effective form of psychotherapy. CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or unsupportive thinking, so you can view challenging situations objectively and respond to them in a way that is effective. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy generally focuses on specific problems, so as you go through the therapy process, you may be asked to do homework (activities, reading or practices that build on what you learn during your therapy sessions). This will help you to apply what you’re learning into your daily life, since the more something is practiced the easier it will be to use.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction has been found to be effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, as well as alleviating stress related to medical conditions. During therapy we can combine techniques and mindfulness strategies to help you better understand and manage your thoughts and emotions. MBSR helps us become more aware of habitual reactions, become present in the moment and helps you relate to yourself in a new way to create more choice in life. This can ultimately provide relief from feelings of distress and improve your emotional control.

Solution Focused Therapy

The solution-focused approach addresses self-development, growth and responsibility. It is more goal oriented and focuses on building solutions (future), rather than on solving the problems (past). This is usually incorporated when there is a specific goal. During therapy, discussions are often present focused and use your strengths to create change.

*While the above mentioned therapy methods are routinely utilized during sessions, some techniques may be tailored in order to ensure your individual needs are being met.
